We were out to find a place to have a late lunch or rather early dinner. Craving something Asian, we stumbled upon the Home Town Restuarant. It was around 5:15 when we walked in and there were a few empty tables. I think the workers we're having lunch but they still stopped eating, came and welcomed us in and seated us. Real friendly folks.
I ordered the spicy pork bbq and my wife ordered a spicy beef soup. Both were served with steamed rice and of course banchan. The banchan was just awesome-it had an interesting fish dish. It was small tiny fish that was pickled or something. It was amazing and actually was similar to a dish we have in south india. The portions were huge and the food was just awesome, yummy, delicious I can go on and on.
I can't believe this small little place in an ordinary strip mall serves such awesome Korean food. For me this is the best Korean Restuarant in Anchorage, period.
O the prices are on par with other Korean places in town so expect $15-$25 per dish -

This tiny hole in the wall does have really good Korean food but not too impressed with the bbq. Meat is frozen and not marinated. The spicy seafood soup tastes great but they use fake crab meat and tiny blue crab with a couple of pieces of octopus. Not worth the price. If you want seafood soup, Thai Siam has this seafood hotpot with a tons of real meat--shrimp, scallops, fish, squid/octopus. The gogis are delicious here and they have the best yakimandu in town. If you're craving for Korean food, don't come during peak hours because you will be waiting for a table and service might be slow. Order take out.

Home Town Restaurant is the most legitimate Korean restaurant we have in Anchorage.
I have not been here since ownership changed, but I have been begging my food buddy to eat here for a while. My cravings have never been so satisfied in my life, and that is an understatement.
We arrived around 5:00 PM on a weekday and it did not take long for the restaurant to fill up with customers. Service was somewhat slow, but the waitress was very polite and attentive.
We ordered naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles, pork slices, and veggies in a cold, vinegar/mustard broth) and dwaeji bulgogi (spicy marinated pork). Servings were abundant and traditional. We had a healthy variety of side dishes to cleanse our palate.
I appreciate the fact that they are open very late, more so than most dining establishments. I mean, imagine being heavily inebriated on a Friday or Saturday night and sobering up with Korean food, freshly made with a steaming heap of love. I really hope to take advantage of that someday, minus the imminent hangover.
I cannot wait to return. -

When you've got that craving for some bibimbap, this is the place to throw down!
Lots of tasty side dishes. I think we had 9. The kimchi was the freshest and tastiest I have ever had. It wasn't as bitter and pungent as others. My wife said it was the freshest she has had since she lived in Korea.
Fresh hot tea.
While I was enjoying my clay pot of Korean perfection, the wonderful lady serving the whole restaurant brought out a grill to make Korean barbecue. The vegetable and pork belly looked and smelled delicious. Next time I'll order Korean barbecue.
This isn't a fly in and out place. Sit down, enjoy the pictures and the fish tank.
Sip on your tea.
Service is a little slow, but the quality is well worth the wait. And if you make eye contact with the serving lady, she'll be right there ready to please! -

This place is something else. The food tastes amazing and the portions are huuuuggeeee!! When I came here, we ordered an appetizer and two entrees. There was some regret, as we bought waaaayyy too much food. All the food we ordered were as big as my head and filled me up! When I was done it looked like I barely made a dent in the ttoekbboki and ramen I ordered.
The tteokbokki was spicy and hot. It was way spicier than I'm use to, but it wasn't bad. The kimchi pancake we got as an appetizer was good. It had a hint of kimchi flavor but it wasn't overly strong. I especially liked the crunch and texture.
The place is small, but it can fit a lot of people. The pictures of the food in the menu helped with choosing what I wanted and what I'm going to choose for next time! When I saw the pictures though, my first thought was, "there's no way they're as big as the picture," but I was mistaken.
Home town Restaurant is amazing. I'm definitely going to come back again!!
